TI-84 Plus CE Announcement Tomorrow

UPDATE: I have posted my TI-84 Plus CE Review It’s been a couple of years since Texas Instruments has announced a significant change to one of their major graphing calculator product lines, the most recent being the addition of color to the TI-84 line with the TI-84 Plus C. Tomorrow morning, TI will officially break their silence on a big update to that same extremely popular line of calculators with a new 84, the TI-84 Plus CE.

HP 50G Review

Click here to buy your HP 50G on Amazon . HP graphing calculators haven’t had the highest profile the last few years, but that’s about to change with the release with the upcoming HP Prime-review. Despite the lack of new models, the HP 50g has continued to be a popular choice, in fact, the most popular graphing calculator choice among HP fans. Back in the late 90’s when I was an engineering student at the University of Illinois and my graphing calculator of choice was actually, an HP, the HP 48gx.

Graphing Calculators in Mathematics Competitions

As it is once again math competition season in my part of the world, I thought it would be nice to do a post on graphing calculators and mathematics competitions. While I realize this post may only appeal to a small segments of my readers, it is something I’m passionate about, and it may be helpful for new math team coaches out there. I do feel as though I can speak from a position of some authority on this subject.

Top 10 Mathematical Technologies of All Time

I’ve been thinking about the technologies that pushed the way we use and learn mathematics forward the most over the history of man. Here are my picks for the top 10 in the order they were invented. I’m not a historian, so take it for what it’s worth, and I’ll warn you that I almost entirely relied on Wikipedia for historical information. In other words, this is not a research paper.

Desmos Online Graphing Calculator Gets Upgrade

It’s been a couple of months since my original review of the Desmos graphing calculator. Desmos CEO Eli Luberoff was dropped me a line to let me know that his team has been hard at work, adding many of the features I was hopeful would show up soon after I wrote my original review. The calculator is so chocked full of features now that it’s honestly hard to keep track of which ones showed up when, so my apologies to the Desmos team if anything I mention was available prior to these latest upgrades.

HP-12C Special Edition and HP-15C Re-Release

UPDATE: (9/1/11) I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t tough waiting for confirmation on this story. When I originally reported it all the ay back on April 17, I assumed I’d barely beat the rush of posts on other blogs and message boards. Instead, for the first couple of months, I was out there by myself, as there was no news whatsoever. Today, however, I’m pleased to say official confirmation has finally come from HP, pretty much exactly as I originally reported it, other than a delay on the timeline.

TI-82 Review

Please click here to see TI-82 prices on eBay. One of the longest running calculators of all time is the Texas Instruments TI-82. The TI-82 has been around since 1993 and has been so popular that Texas Instruments has continued to add features and upgrade it to the TI-83, TI-83 plus, and finally TI-84 plus. I felt like it was time to do a TI-82 review since there’s a lot of confusion out there about this calculator compared to the later calculators like the TI-83.

TI-Voyage 200 Review

Please click here to buy the TI-Voyage 200 on Amazon. Probably the most powerful graphing calculator on the market today is the TI-Voyage 200. The TI-Voyage is the phoenix born from the ashes of the TI-92. After a nice run by the TI-92, Texas Instruments decided it needed a makeover. So it slimmed it down, upped the processing power, gave it a stylish new case, and designed it to run on lighter AAA batteries instead of AA’s, and, Presto!

HP 39gs and HP 40gs Review

After recently taking a look at HP’s top of the line calculator (see my HP 50g review), I am now turning my attention to reviewing their entry level models. The HP 39gs and HP 40gs are an affordable alternative to the Texas Instruments lineup of calculators. Who are the HP 39gs and HP 40gs designed for? In reviewing the HP 39gs and 40gs, I found them to be extremely affordable, entry level calculators.
