Why You Should Attend a Texas Instruments T3 Webinar

My wife was good enough to pick up extra bed time duty with our kids tonight so I could take in the latest Texas Instruments T3 webinar, Behind Health with TI Technology. As is always the case with these webinars, the content was excellent, incorporating interdisciplinary content from science and statistics. This particular webinar focused on TI’s Stem Behind Health, which I talked about more in a previous post. The content in their latest module focuses on breast cancer.

An Examination of Graphing Calculator Prices on Amazon

If you’re like me, you’ve noticed that prices on Amazon seem less stable than those in brick and mortar stores. There have been times I’ve visited Amazon for a specific product, noted the price, and when I checked back in two days later, the price had changed significantly. Check again a week later, and it’s different still. Until recently, this was just anecdotal for me. I wasn’t sure if what I thought was true was really true.

Texas Instruments Launches STEM Behind Health

It recently came to my attention that Texas Instruments launched a new initiative called STEM Behind Health. STEM Behind Health is designed to get students excited about health related careers. Activities from the initiative include a TI-Nspire document file as well as student worksheets and teacher notes. They were developed in conjunction with health care professionals and follow real patients and their health conditions. The first released activity is “Chelcie’s Story.

Encountering a TI-Nspire Prototype 'In the Wild'

I need to preface this story by saying that this is something that happened over 6 months ago. I took the pictures at the time but started my online data science studies shortly thereafter and just never got around to writing the story, but it was such an unusual thing that probably once a month I’ve continued to think about writing it up. During my years of teaching at my school, I’ve been the guy who troubleshoots all of the graphing calculator problems for teachers and students alike.

Win a Classroom Set of TI-Nspire CX’s with a Selfie

Texas Instruments often does a cool back to school promotions, and they’ve got a great one this year. They are offering participants the chance to win a set of 30 TI-Nspire CX (or TI-84 Plus C) graphing calculators by having the best selfie. Contestants, who just have to be 13 years or older, need to post a picture of themselves using their favorite TI technology to Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #TISelfieContest.

Second Editions of TI-Nspire Tutorials

With my long silence here on Tech Powered Math, I’ve hardly mentioned the fact that there have been two upgrades to the TI-Nspire operating system, OS 3.6 and OS 3.9. These upgrades have been incremental, not earth shattering, but they have pleasantly changed some aesthetics throughout the TI-Nspire environment. There have also been some minor changes as to how users interact in a graphing window. As a result, it seemed like it was good time to update my TI-Nspire Tutorials series of Kindle books.

TI-Nspire Won’t Turn On? Performing Surgery

Math team season is upon us. I had an unusually large number of kids try out, and even after cuts, we had a record number of kids on the team, 32. When the start of the season nears, one of my preseason jobs is to get the team TI-Nspire CAS handhelds out of the closet, both to update to the latest OS, and to make sure they all still boot up.

TI-Nspire OS 3.6

UPDATE: Several of you posted more information about TI-Nspire OS 3.6 on the Tech Powered Math Facebook page. As usual Adriend Bertrand of TI-Planet already has a great story up on 3.6. Apparently, it was first available for download in mid-October. In addition to the changes I had already noticed. Readers pointed out some additional changes. The calculator app now alternates shading light and dark on equations to make them easier to read.

TI-Nspire Tutorials

I’ve talked about it for a long time, run into many delays along the way, but I finally have found my way around to releasing my DVD on the TI-Nspire! Sticking with the same theme as the my TI-Nspire books, it’s called TI-Nspire Tutorials. Much like the books, I’ve aimed it at beginning to intermediate users of the TI-Nspire. I’m really excited about what users can learn from the DVD. The run time is almost two and half hours and is broken into three parts.
