Back to School Gadget Guide 2013

Nexus 7 tablet

Every year there are some great back to school gadget deals, but in 2013, the gadget makers seems to really be going all out. Rather than flood you with crazy number of deals and new products out there, I’m going to focus in on just a few. These are the gadgets and deals that I rank as the top for back to school for the 2013-14 school year.

Amazon

Amazon has quite a few good things going right now. They’ve got an entire page here dedicated to back to school deals. I’d pay particular attention to their laptop deals, where they’re making significant markdowns. A couple of deals that really stuck out to me are:

The best selling Dell Inspiron 15 i15RV-10000BLK has temporarily been marked down 24% to well under $500, making it a steal.

Also, the Samsung Chromebook is now just $219, which is really a steal. Chromebooks aren’t for everyone, but if you primarily use internet services like Google Docs, they’re affordable and lightning fast. I recently purchased this very Chromebook and love it.

Amazon also has the new Nexus 7 tablet for $219. I haven’t had a chance to go hands on with it yet, but it’s been getting rave reviews, and the original Nexus 7 was a big hit at my house.

If you are a college student, I’d also point out to you that Amazon is not just selling textbooks anymore, they’re renting them. Yes, you can RENT your textbooks on Amazon and save up to 70% off the regular price. You don’t even have to pay for shipping in either direction. Amazon gives you boxes to ship the books back for free at the end of the semester. I was very surprised to learn about this program.

Lastly, at Amazon, I’d suggest taking a look at Guerrilla Calculator Accessories. These accessories are perfect for protecting your TI-Nspire CX or TI-84 Plus in a fashionable way. I reviewed them last month and think they’re going to be a real hit this fall.

Microsoft

The new Microsoft tablets may not be the right fit for everyone, but if you’ve taken one for a spin, you know they’re far more than a respectable tablet. If you’ve been on the fence about picking up a Surface Pro tablet, you should know that Microsoft just slashed the price of all their Pro tablets by $100 a couple of days ago. You can take advantage of this deal at the Microsoft Store.

Apple

Apple always has a nice back to school offer, and this year is no different. College students who buy a Mac will get a $100 gift card to use at the App Store/iTunes/iBookstore. Alternatively, you can buy an iPhone or iPad and get a $50 gift card. They are also offering $100 off certain printers and special financing. Check it out here at the Apple Store.

As always, thanks for making your purchase through the links on Tech Powered Math. A small percentage of your purchase goes to support my work. Thanks for your support!
