NCTM Lessons on Casio Prizm

By Tech Powered Dad | April 19, 2011

As I promised at my presentations at NCTM last week, I am posting the Word files for worksheets I handed out. I know not everyone who stopped by was able to pick up a copy, especially at the second presentation, because by then the crowds had really picked up. I really appreciate everyone who took the time to listen. If you are a teacher, feel free to use these handouts with your class.

Lesson: Picture Plot for the Casio Prizm

Level: Algebra II to Pre-Calculus

Topics Covered: Linear regressions, quadratic regressions, roots, relative maximum, tangent lines, inverse trigonometry, projectile motion

My first lesson covered the basics of picture plot, as well as a hodgepodge of more sophisticated questions you could explore using picture plot. This lesson covers both still images and animated flip books.

Lesson: Statistics on the Casio Prizm

Level: Algebra I

Topics Covered: Linear regressions, equation of a line, slope, y-intercepts.

My second lesson is an exploration of height vs. shoe size. It involves having students poll their friends for data, creating a line of best fit, and then using that line of best fit to make predictions about shoe size based on a person’s height.
